On December 14th, the inaugural meeting of the Museum Council for the 2023-2026 term was held at the ‘Treblinka Museum: The German Nazi Extermination and Forced Labour Camp (1941-1944)’ in Wólka Okrąglik. This council, appointed by the Mazowieckie Voivodeship Board, includes members such as Elżbieta Lanc from the Mazowieckie Voivodeship Board; Professor Zofia Chyra-Rolicz of the Institute of History at the University of Siedlce; Stanisław Stankiewicz, President of the Central Council of Roma in Poland; Artur Ziontek, a literary historian and regionalist specializing in the history and culture of the Podlasie region; Hanna Przesmycka, Director of the School Complex in Kosów Lacki; and Barbara Janina Sochal, President of the Janusz Korczak Association of Poland.
The Council’s session began with a vote, re-electing Elżbieta Lanc as Chairwoman and appointing Zofia Chyra-Rolicz as Vice-Chairwoman. The meeting addressed the museum’s current operations and planned future initiatives for the Treblinka Museum.
The Museum Council serves as an advisory body, overseeing the museum’s duties to its collections and the public. It evaluates the museum’s activities based on the annual reports provided by the director and reviews the director’s annual operational plans.
